Turning Steel for the Pump Industry

At N.E.T. & Die, Inc., we operate highly advanced turning and milling equipment that enables us to machine large diameter components with exceptional finishes and tolerances. We manufactured the impeller ring highlighted here for a customer in the pump industry. Using ASTM grade A743 corrosion-resistant stainless steel, we turned the ring on our 6-axis Mori Seiki CNC lathe equipped with live tooling. This enabled us to form and finish the part in a single fixture and eliminate the need for secondary operations.

When completed, the part featured dimensions of 24.5" OD x 20.25" ID x 2.88" in thickness. In addition to upholding +.000"/-.001" tolerances, we were able to achieve a 32 surface finish, all from a single setup. Current production volume is 2 to 50 units in a three week time frame.
